Split Spirits: What’s In A Name
Did you know that our namesake Split Spirits line has a little piece of the place it was made in right in the bottle?
Our Split Spirits Vermont, New York & Illinois are made using only grains from each respective state. But there’s another local ingredient that sets our Split Spirits line apart from most other spirits: a split of wood.
That’s right, pick up a bottle of Split Spirits & you’ll find a split of wood in every bottle. Now here’s why: we make our Split Spirits line a little differently. While the whiskeys in our Appalachian Gap collection are barrel aged the old fashioned way, we invert the distilling process when producing our Split Spirits line by infusing the splits of wood into the spirits to impart flavors you can’t otherwise get with traditional barrel aging. The result is a light, crisp, full-bodied spirit with a smooth finish.
Due to the high surface area, this process cuts down the time needed to age this spirit. But because it is aged with split pieces of wood & not in barrels, we technically can’t call it whiskey, hence the name Split Spirits.
The wood used in each bottle of Split Spirits is sourced from unusable parts of trees that have already been felled in Vermont, New York or Illinois, following sustainable forestry principles.
Pick up a bottle of Split Spirits & enjoy a sustainably made spirit with a sense of place.
