What Does It Mean To Be Climate Neutral Certified?

As the first Climate Neutral Certified distillery in the USA, it’s a question we get a lot. Our commitment to sustainability is part of the foundation of Split Spirits, so we wanted to share that story with you & highlight the work we have done to become fully carbon neutral.

The Change Climate Project is a nonprofit organization that helps companies reduce their emissions & invest in climate solutions. In 2021, we partnered with Change Climate to assess our climate impact & take action to reduce our emissions.

After a rigorous assessment, Split Spirits was given the Climate Neutral Certified label for the following actions we took to reduce our carbon emissions & become fully carbon neutral:

🌲 Built an array of solar panels that provide 100% of the electricity used in our distillery.

🌲 Certified that all of our grain is sourced from local organic or regenerative farmers, which fosters soil health & minimizes emissions from transportation.

🌲 Converted our boilers to run on renewable natural gas made from byproducts from local farms, breweries, cheesemakers & our own distillery.

🌲 Replaced all plastic in our packaging with recycled cardboard & ensured that the majority of our bottles are made from 100% recycled glass.

🌲 Ensured that all of our spent grains are sent to a biodigester to create clean electricity, meaning our distillery puts out less waste than an average residential home!

“Wherever you see the Climate Neutral Certified label, it means the company is accountable for its greenhouse gas emissions” as stated on ChangeClimate.org. “To earn the label, a company must annually measure cradle-to-customer emissions, implement specific action plans to reduce emissions, and invest in high quality, verified carbon credits.”

Split Spirits is proud to be the first distillery in the USA to receive the Climate Neutral Certified label. We are committed to investing in sustainability throughout our distilling process to preserve our land & ensure more adventures for years to come.
